Laminate Underlay

Searching for laminate flooring underlay? Then look no further than British Flooring. As a well-established flooring company, we have an extensive range of underlays available that are specifically designed for use with wooden or laminate flooring.

Regardless of what type of laminate flooring you’re installing, it’s always recommended to accompany it with a good quality underlay as laminate flooring is relatively thin and can become vulnerable to damage over time.

Laminate underlay will enhance the overall look, feel and performance of your flooring. It provides an extra layer between the laminate and the subfloor. This means it will absorb the shock from foot traffic – protecting your floors against wear and tear – whilst increasing its lifespan.

A comprehensive range of wood floor underlay

From acoustic underlays that absorb the sound of footsteps and prevent sound from travelling through the floor to fibreboard underlays that help even out minor imperfections. Our collection of laminate flooring underlay has it all. We even provide a range of budget-friendly options.

Leading brands, such as Royale and Envoy, are available too. And we stock self-adhesive underlays that are perfect if you want to create a floating floor effect.

What is the best underlay for laminate floors?

Choosing the right laminate flooring underlay is important because it shapes how your flooring looks, feels, and wears over time. It can make the difference between a successful laminate flooring installation and a poor one.

A decent wood floor underlay should:

  • Provide cushioning
  • Protect floors against moisture and mould
  • Improve heat insulation
  • Enhance thickness
  • Reduce sound

Here at British Flooring, we supply a superb range of wood floor underlays from renowned brands and even stock acoustic underlays.

Although it’s great to have choices, knowing which to pick can be tricky. That’s why, when selecting laminate underlay, we recommend that you base your decision on the environment and your personal needs. And take into account the underlay’s thermal rating, thickness, sound absorption, and price tag.

How much underlay do I need?

At British Flooring, we appreciate that rooms come in all shapes and sizes – that’s why we provide laminate flooring underlay in a choice of roll lengths.

To ensure that you order enough underlay – and that it fits into the desired area – your measurements need to be 100% accurate.

Start by sketching a quick diagram of your room. It doesn’t need to be perfect but the measurements need to be right.

If your room is square or rectangular, multiplying the width by the height should determine how much laminate underlay you need. Remember to add an extra 50-100mm to each edge to compensate for errors.

For rooms that have a chimney breast or recess, still measure the complete surface area as the wood floor underlay can be cut around them.

Make sure you double-check your measurements to ensure they are correct and don’t forget to measure right the way to the back of door frames and trims.

Is laminate underlay easy to install?

Yes! Even if this isn’t your area of expertise, with the right tools and guidance, most laminate underlays are simple to fit.

Of course, you need to make sure that you have chosen a suitable wood floor underlay and have enough to complete the job without a hitch – but all you have to do is measure and cut it, fix it to the subfloor, and shape it to fit.
